Delivery Apps
I was watching the new episode of The Last Week Tonight with John Oliver about food delivery apps, and it shocked me how I never thought about how we are getting this convenient service. Like many people, we just take things at face value as long as they serve us and make our lives easier.
From the restaurant's struggles with the app and how they are not getting a fair share of the profit to the fact that the evaluation you do is not on the restaurant or the food but reflects on the drivers. We are all working towards achieving some financial independence and having some savings in case something goes wrong, God Forbid. And that is what, ultimately, these drivers are working towards. And how their safety is sometimes compromised because we all want things delivered like right now!!
I always try to order from restaurants near my place so they don’t have to rush. But I have never tipped before because I don’t keep cash at hand, and I don’t trust the apps to give a full tip to the riders, or any of it for that matter, but watching this episode has opened my eyes. I'm changing and will have cash at home just for the tips. We should all strive to do our best and treat others the way we want to be treated.
